McDonald’s celebrates the 40th anniversary of Chicken McNuggets

McDonald’s Hong Kong arm has taken up an innovative approach to celebrating the 40-year anniversary of everyone’s favorite food item on the menu – Chicken McNuggets. They have completed 4 decades of being on the board and are now being celebrated for that. The approach is innovative because it brings together the combination of technology and food in its best spirits.

McDonald’s Hong Kong has said that it will launch McNuggets Land in The Sandbox. The virtual space will feature everyone’s favorite food item as an interactive character. Making it more interesting is a list of rewards that can be claimed by the participants. They only have to complete quests to claim rewards, special rewards in some cases.

Rewards available for everyone in The Sandbox are:-

  • 100k SAND after completing all the quests
  • Mystery Box after completing all the quests
  • Memorabilia after completing a minimum of one quest

There are additional rewards exclusively for the customers of Hong Kong. These are:-

  • Free Chicken McNuggets for 365 days – McDonald’s will select ten winners based on their sequence of completing the quests.
  • Extra Value Meal Redemption Coupon for Chicken McNuggets – The reward extends to the top 10,000 winners, provided they complete at least one quest.

Both types of rewards by McDonald’s Honk Kong in The Sandbox are subject to terms & conditions, which have to be read before entering the digital sphere or metaverse.

While an increase in customer engagement through rewards sounds like wonderful news, McDonald’s is also taking up this opportunity to educate them about the history of Chicken McNuggets. This will cover all 40 years that the product has spent in the market. A clear storyline is unavailable at the moment; however, participants can be assured that they will have access to a virtual art gallery to review the history.

Also coming up in The Sandbox at the 40th anniversary of Chicken McNuggets is a game where the food item will turn into gaming characters. The introduction will be conducted by Coach Nugget and Assistant Coach McNugget. As cute as it sounds, participants will have to turn to the other side soon, wherein they have the opportunity of serving the order to customers. The main game will be assisted by mini-games themed on similar lines.

Randy Lai, the Chief Executive Officer of McDonald’s Hong Kong, has said that the brand has always strived to deliver innovative experiences since the time it was rooted in Hong Kong. This comes to 48 years of delivering Happy Moments to customers every day. Randy has also expressed excitement about collaborating with The Sandbox to provide a Web3 metaverse gaming experience to their customer base.

Sebastian Borget, the Co-Founder of The Sandbox, has responded to the statement by saying that they are pleased to be partnering with McDonald’s Hong Kong in their attempt to innovatively celebrate 40 years of Chicken McNuggets. Sebastian has also acknowledged the efforts invested by Pangu by Kenal, a Hong Kong-based metaverse studio, in bringing the characters to life.
